Comments:
RRA1 (KRE33) is a cytosine acetyltransferase with specificity towards both 18S rRNA and serine and leucine tRNAs. KRE33 is required for formation of ac4C1280 (helix 34) and ac4C1773 (helix 45) on 18S rRNA. KRE33 is required for pre-rRNA processing steps leading to 18S rRNA synthesis but 18S rRNA acetylation is not required for pre-rRNA processing. KRE33 is additionally required for ac4C12 on serine and leucine tRNAs. KRE33 interacts in vivo with TAN1. TAN1 is also required for tRNA acetylation but does not carry any acetyltransferase domain. On this basis, TAN1 was suggested to act as a tRNA adaptor to KRE33. NAT10 is the human homolog of KRE33 and THUMPD1 the human homolog of TAN1.
