FgTAD2 is an essential adenosine-deaminase-acting-on-tRNA and mRNA. FgTAD2 has a sexual-stage-specific isoform and formed heterodimers with enzymatically inactive FgTAD3. The H352Y mutation affects the deaminase activity of Tad2 with the mRNA but not tRNA substrates.
